Although I have specialized in the art of newborn photography for about 13 years I am always so excited about a new infant coming into the studio for portraits. This is especially true if I have photographed a maternity session with mom and have gotten to know the parents a bit. Claudia and TJ are wonderful to work with and so in love. They were so excited about this baby girl when we took the maternity portraits. I have to say that Claudia was one gorgeous mother to be. Here is a before and after of a portrait that we have decided will be her signature shot with her sweet daughter Eliana. Each session we will use the same photography back drop and material to wrap until Eliana is old enough to be wrapped separate from mom as they stand side by side holding hands. I am looking forward to watching Eliana grow up.
Dad took on a very special role with both of these photo shoots. TJ is the one that called my Raleigh studio to book the appointment for his lovely wife’s maternity session. He is also the one that called to schedule the photo shoot for his precious newborn daughter. TJ called and discussed all of the plans. It was very sweet and Claudia has a fantastic husband. Eliana has a dad that is super excited about that very important job, being a parent. I know he will be one of the best dads around. Doesn’t he look proud?
Every new baby that comes to my Raleigh photography studio in warm months of the year has the added benefit of being able to be photographed in my gorgeous flower gardens. I call them the fairy gardens. They are amazing. They are a lot of work, sometimes over 10 hours a week, but worth every photo like the ones below of Eliana. The outdoor newborn photos are my favorite.
Last but not least both Claudia’s mom and TJ’s mom came for Eliana’s newborn photography session. It was so nice to meet them both. It takes hours to photograph a newborn so we got to chat a lot. They are such a tight knit family and it was wonderful and heart warming to see.
After spending time with almost their whole family this quote from Thomas Jefferson came to mind:
“The happiest moments of my life have been the few which I have passed in the bosom of my family”.
Baby Rhys came in for his newborn portraits last week. He brought his mommy and his grandma too. We had so much fun ooh-ing and aaa-hing over him. A newborn session is fun to watch and I was happy to meet all three of them.
We started outside in the fairy gardens which are in full bloom and gorgeous right now. Rhys seemed to enjoy himself. The newborn babies are so cute sleeping outside in a patch of flowers. They love listening to the crickets and horses I guess because they all smile at least once or twice.
After taking portraits outside we came into my newborn studio, separated from my bigger studio to help prevent spread of germs to newborns. Mom picked colors that match their home and Rhys rocked the shots. The benefit to customers of me having been a Raleigh newborn photographer for so many years is that I pretty much have everything for newborns. Newborns are of course my favorite subjects and have been for over a decade. Like Rhys, newborns do best in the studio when photographed in the first two weeks of life.
Here are some sweet newborn portraits of baby Rhys. Enjoy them…..
I was so excited when I heard my good friend Rodney was going to be a grandfather. His wonderful son Kyle and daughter in law Amber and I started talking about the newborn session early on in her pregnancy. I could not wait to take these portraits. They were blessed with a perfect baby girl that they named Violet and up from Wilmington they came for Violet’s newborn photo shoot.
We had so much fun during the session. It was nice and warm outside so we were able to photograph Violet in the Fairy Gardens as well as in the newborn studio. She slept like a little champ making it easy for me to get so many cute images. I love being a newborn photographer and it’s twice as nice to have an emotional investment in my subjects. I first saw photographs of her daddy Kyle when he was about two years old. His father Rodney sent me updated Christmas cards through the years of his handsome boys. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to photograph Kyle, Amber and also Violet. To make our session even more special Amber’s mom was able to join us. It was great to meet her and photograph her with her grandchild.
The OMGawd session: Raleigh newborn photographer Michelle Studios Photography
Baby Salem came in for her newborn portraits on Tuesday. We are calling this the OMGawd session because every five minutes or so either her daddy Mike, her mommy Cassie or I would have to exclaim “OMGawd!”. She was absolutely adorable in every single set up that we used. Each head band that we put on, wrap or hat looks so incredible adorable around her sweet face. Her precious little body, so new and sweet, was incredibly cute in every set up. She was perfect in every way possible.
Have I said before that newborn sessions are SO MUCH FUN? Cassie, Mike and I laughed and oooh-ed and aaah-ed through the whole session. Having the beautiful images of your baby is the best part of a newborn session but the experience is also a wonderful part of the package. I was thrilled for them and it was so nice to see that dad was just as excited as mom. I almost wish that I had had a video camera set up to capture the smiles on mom and dad’s face as I posed Salem and photographed her. At one point while we were in the studio I had to break for a minute and go get my daughter to have a peek at how cute she looked. The image with the pink hat and the big huge poms on the side was so cute and so funny we just had to share it with one more person.
I have specialized in the art of newborn photography since 2004 and have photographed over a thousand newborns BUT I can truly say that I am still honored and SUPER excited to photograph each new little person. I love my job. The excitement from the parents at this very special time and the sweetness of each new little person is such a rush.
Salem was so relaxed and easy to photograph at 7 days young. No matter how I placed her hands, feet or face she was relaxed and even smiled in her sleep. She loved the little newborn swing in the fairy garden and probably would have slept there for hours. I want every newborn’s session to be unique but I have to say that all of my new moms and dads want that shot. It’s magical.
Congratulations Mike and Cassie. I can tell how much you love her and each other. Welcome to the world Salem, it was so great to meet you. This is a small sample of the wonderful newborn portraits that we got of your new daughter. See if you can make it through them and not say “OMGawd” again.
